Inspiration

11 12 2006

Our school’s orchestra director approached me last week to ask if I could assist her in showing a video to her class. Apparently, she had been sent the video from a friend of hers who knew that she had taken her students to perform at a nearby school for severely disabled children. The video is a tribute to Rick and Dick Hoyt, done by someone after viewing the television broadcast. The individual created this movie, set it to music, and posted it on YouTube. The orchestra class of about thirty middle school children assembled in my lab to watch it. It was an amazing experience for me. I looked out at these young faces, so focused, so touched and silent as they watched the video. When it was over, no one spoke.

Could anyone have ever imagined that an individual otherwise imprisoned by his physical limitations, could share his heart and soul with his father and together they could inspire so many?

I think that this video really shows that when you strive, you can achieve.

I thought that it was pretty amazing how two people could do something like this. When I saw Rick and his father running in a marathon and with someone who has a disabilities and has had it for the longest time, I cant help to think that they must have a very powerful relationship if their willing to devolt such time and effert into these marathons. It must be hard for the both of them, for Rick to live life as a handycap, but to still come through with such accomplishments like graduating in Boston U. or just leaving in his own apartment in Boston. And for both the parents it must of been very hard to watch their child go throught this, and to wonder what if? But through it all they pulled through and made a pretty fantastic life for the three of them, and thats what really matters for them.

I really liked this video. I thought it was touching and sad. I thought it was really cool that Rick’s dad would do something like that. It showed how much Rick’s dad really cares about him. I thought it was sad that Rick was inprisoned like that.

This video was really inspiring, it shows everyone that even though a person may have disablities, they can still achieve so many things. The bond that Rick and his dad have is really touching. I also think that is is really great that Rick’s dad does all of this for him so that his life would be worth living.

This movie is so inspiring to me and to the disabled people of the world. It shows that you can really do what ever you want to do and succeed if you work hard enough at it. It is moving that a dad would do something like this for his son. You can tell that he is so inspired by his son and that he would do anything for him!

This video was very touching. It makes you really appreciate all of the ordinary things you do like run and walk. Also, as Becky said it shows that you can be very disabled yet still achieve many things in yout lifetime. This video really puts things in perspective. I thought it was a very moving video that I would recommend to anyone who is willing to watch it.

To me, this was a very powerful video. It is nothing short of amazing how a father can do all of this for his son, and how together they can achieve their goals, no matter what. This video is proof of how dreams can come true and is a strong example of the power of love.

This video was very inspiring. It moved me a lot and almost made me cry. It made me understand how fortunate I am to be able to walk and run and function normally. Next time I get upset over something stupid, I will think of how fortunate I am to be able to walk and maybe I will stop and appreciate things more.

I think that this story is very touching. I think that it is very nice that the dad and son have such a strong relationship. I think that us as people that don’t have disabilities take a lot of things for granted. I think we take all of the things that we do without thinking like walking, and breathing and running. I think that it is really nice that the dad can help his son work through his problems and be able to be around people and be able to do activities. His son has probably done more things that take a lot of effort than a lot of other people in the world. Even though they don’t always come in first place and come in last or next to last they still can say that they have done the iron man. I think it is really nice that the dad is trying to include his son in everyday activities so he can live a semi- normal life. I think that it is good that the family has some form of communication. I think if I was the parents of Rick I would be very proud of him because he has gone to school and graduated. I think that he has a lot of the same thoughts as other people and one of the best qualities he has is that he really cares about other people and even though not all people see it I think that he really knows what is going on. I think that it is really nice that he said that if he could come out of the wheelchair one of the first things he would say is dad sit down and now I will push you. I think that they are right and the only way to describe Rick or team Hoyt is that they really CAN.

I like this clip a lot. I think it was really touching. It was amazing how the dad and the boy was in the marathon, I think this shows that even if you have a disability you should enjoy your life to the fullest.

This is a video not only about how one man and his son accomplished what others believed to be impossible, but how anything is possible and love and determination can conquer all. All in all it was an astounding video.

I thought that this video was one of the saddest I’ve ever seen. Seeing a father love his son so much that he’s willing to do this made me cry. Also seeing his son so disabled broke my heart too. It really makes you think about your own life and how much you take for granted. It’s really inspiring to me watching this video.

This video was really sad and touching, and says a lot about the things we can do if we strive for them. It also shows how much his dad loved him, even if he could never talk to him or anything. It also tells a lot about the relationships we could have with other people.

I’ve read a fictional book about a guy with cerebral palsy called ‘Stuck in the Neutral’. It’s a similiar situation w/ a son who has CP but has a perfectly functioning brain, and about how his dad struggled to communicate w/ him. I recommend it to everyone.

I think that this is so inspiring. I can’t imagine thinking things but not being able to say things. So I guess that his mind is trapped in a useless body. It’s so sad that he couldnt talk before. What he said about not knowing what it was like not being disabled was really true. You really don’t know what something is like unless you have it or it happens to you.

This video was very moving and inspiring. Although I watched it before, it had the same effect on me as the first time I saw it. It’s incredible what a father can do for a son out of love. It taught me that you can do anything if you believe you can.

I think this video was very emotiomal and inspirational. The fact that he never lost hope and always believed that him and his father would succeed is unbelievable. These are the relationships that fathers should have with their sons. I think this story is amazing.

This movie was very good. It tells you how lucky you are to be normal and do they things that you can do today. I also think that it was amazing how Rick’s dad new that there was someone inside him and didnt just put him in a institution.

I thought that this was very powerful and meaningful video. Dick must love his son a lot to not give up on him. Instead of leaving him in a hospital, he has faith in him and does everything with his father.

This was a very inspriational video. His father never gave up and didn’t let him go, sharing his victories with him. Hearing about him having CP made me grateful for what I had and that I was able to walk, move and talk. Before I really took it for granted.

I thought that these videos were very inspirational. I also liked how his first words were, “Go Bruins,” even though I am a big Devils fan. I also liked it when he said that they ran the whole five miles for the paralized hockey player named Travis Roy’s(Paralized on his first shift as a Boston University hockey player) foundation for the paralized. Unfortunately, Rick Hoyt probably can’t ever play sports, but, he is very happy.
